Year 4
Yesterday, Year 4 travelled back in time to the year 1891. We all dressed as Victorian School Children, as we walked quietly into our classroom. Our room was transformed into a Victorian School Room – no sight of any technology at all! We had a blackboard, we had to write with chalk on our “chalk boards”. On entry to our classroom, we had a hand inspection, before we sat at our desks.
We had a very strict teacher for the day, who insisted on silence and reminded us that “Children should only speak, when spoken to”. Poor behaviour or lack of concentration resulted in us wearing the Dunce’s hat or even (pretending) to have the cane. We weren’t allowed to speak Welsh at all during the day, but some of us forgot and had to wear the Welsh Not!
We concentrated on the 3 R’s. We had great fun chanting our tables, reading poetry aloud as a class, handwriting and we made another thaumatrope. It was an exciting, fun way to learn all about life in the past and we’ve understood in greater depth, what it would have been like for a Victorian school child. A great day, we all want to do it again
