Pupils entertaining the community
A huge well done to our children who entertained the community in the St Athan Community Fair. They were absolutely fantastic. Big thank you to Mr Maurer for his hard work too.
Sports Day Arrangements
Due to the recent extreme weather and high temperatures we have devised a Plan A and a Plan B for Sports Day. Currently the weather forecast is 21/22 degrees for Friday which means our current plan will go ahead as previously shared with extra gazebos, water breaks and shaded areas available
across the school. If within the next 24 hours the weather forecast changes suggesting higher temperatures we will move to Plan B which means we will reduce the number of events and complete Sports Day by lunchtime, in order to keep our children safe.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused but the health and safety of the children is our priority.
I would like to say a massive thank you to all my amazing parent helpers at Woodland Wonders. Your presence allows me to provide additional learning opportunities in a safe environment. I look forward to having you all back in September.
Nursery has been very busy recently with our Nursery Open Day, visits to the Reception classroom, making fruit kebabs and practising for Sports Day. We are also going to post our letters home this week for the teddy bears picnic. (See below)
For the School Fayre on Monday 18th July, we will be selling the children’s handprints that they did when they first started Nursery for £1. We will also be decorating biscuits for 30p. The Fayre takes place in the Afternoon session from 1.45pm onwards and parents can bring their children to have a look around.
Those children in the Afternoon Class can be collected from Nursery from 1.45pm onwards if you wish to take them around the Fayre.
Nursery and Reception Teddy Bears Picnic
On Wednesday 20th July, don’t forget it’s our Teddy Bears Picnic. There is no Nursery in the morning, as all children are invited to come to the Afternoon Class 12.30-3pm, children can wear party clothes and bring in a teddy with their name clearly marked on it.
Could we please also ask each child to bring in their own paper plate of picnic food for the event. This again needs to be clearly marked with your child’s name.
We will be providing the drinks.
We have been exploring how to keep our bodies and minds fit and healthy this week. School fair activities are well underway in Reception - we can’t wait to see you all there!
What a brilliant way to end our topic - on Monday Year 1 went to Porthkerry Park. We had lots of fun playing in the park and exploring the beach. We really enjoyed looking at the rock pools and finding all of the creatures we had been learning about. It was lovely to have some hands on experience getting up close to their habitats.
On our way back from the beach we also found a book which had been left on a bench by an author so we found a shady spot under the tree and read it. It was a good way to cool off after a busy morning.
This week we have also been busy making our sea based eco friendly crafts for the summer fayre. We have really enjoyed designing and making our jellyfish and seahorses!
As part health and well-being week we have been thinking about all of the ways we keep fit and healthy. We have been exercising and keeping cool and hydrated. We have also learnt about how important it is to rest and talk about our feelings.
This week in Year 2 we have been doing lots of special activities with Mrs Hickey and the Year 3 class. On Monday, we went on an exciting tour of KS2. We saw where the Year 3 classroom was; where our pegs will be for next year and lots of other fun areas that we will be using for next year. At playtime, we played with the Year 3 boys and girls on the KS2 yard. We had so much fun! After play, Mrs Hickey came to talk to us and read us a lovely story.
Yesterday afternoon, we joined up with the Year 3 children for a Healthy Picnic. It was really nice to speak to and play with the other boys and girls again. We all had a lovely time and we even had a special treat for being so friendly and kind to one another.
Yesterday we met with the children from Year 2 for our healthy picnic, we all enjoyed getting to know the Year 2 children and talking to them about Year 3. A huge thank you to our parents for providing your children with a delicious healthy picnic. We finished off the hot day with an ice lolly to cool us all down.
Our polytunnel is looking fabulous, it has really benefited from the warm weather. The children are thrilled that we have successfully grown peas. Remember to come along on Monday to our stall to grab yourself some healthy home grown veggies!
Please can the children bring a carrier bag to school with them on Wednesday 20th July so they can empty their trays.
We’ve been discussing the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet in Year 4. This week, we’ve sorted foods into different categories – on a “Healthy Eating Pyramid”.
Also we had a great discussion today with Nicola from Spectrum. We talked about feeling safe and scared in our families. We did an experiment with oil and water to demonstrate this. It showed us that oil and water don’t mix. Feeling safe and scared don’t mix. We all listened very carefully and answered questions sensibly.
We can always turn to people for help and we can call Childline 0800 1111, somebody is always there to listen and help.
Year 5 have had a busy week! They have been creating windchimes to sell at the Summer Fair. They also made their own fruit smoothies and fruit kebabs that they then got to enjoy while enjoying the beautiful weather!
Nicola from Spectrum came in for Year 6.
